Dang, all these sweet rigs FS lately, and I'm not quite ready to take a plunge back into a van just yet.

When you're ready let's talk about dropping a 2009-2014 body on a new 2021 7.3L chassis cab frame. Get the all new interior and awesome drivetrain.

OK, I've really helped derail this thread, and your post is more than worthy of yet another epic thread.

Is that really a possibility?

Yes, it is a possibility. From what I’ve seen crawling around the 2021, It looks like a much simpler swap than putting a Cummins in a van. Far less custom work at least.

Aside from the cosmetic changes to the dash, the 2021 body is still the same ol’ Eseries as years prior.

I have an eb350 with 5.4 and 4.56 gears, but on 35" tires. A couple times a year we'd tow our "big" trailer with a combined weight right around 16k lbs. Definitely gutless, but never so slow that I have to use the flashers going over grades (not since regearing anyway!) Minor as it sounds, the jump from 34" to 35" tires made a significant impact on towing, lost 1.5mpg on and 5mph on uphills over the same 500 mile loop just from tires. I'd figure another 100hp/100tq would keep my palms from sweating on those climbs, but that's more than the jump to a V10 would even give. Starting with a V10 and throwing some bolt-ons at it would have been much more manageable (not fast) and the hit to empty mpg's could be justified if you tow often enough since loaded mpg's would be about the same, if not better. I'd be lying if I said I don't consider buying a new truck every time we tow more than our little box trailer.

Deeper gearing is definitely going to be your best bang for the buck, I'd probably have gone 4.88 if I were doing it again, but no matter what, it's never gonna tow like a modern 1 ton truck. A tune from 5 star will give you a noticeable improvement, but don't expect miracles.

If you've got an engine builder you trust, I see no reason you couldn't get the power you're after. Even a basic off the shelf build using a non-pi bottom end, pi top end, and a different set of cams might get you there. Any more than that would be far from a bolt on affair, and would cost more than the loss you might take selling your current van and buying something else. You'd have to be in love with your van otherwise.

Good gravy if you followed MG's path to swapping the Cummins into an E-Series you'd not even have to ask that question!

So yeah we've hijacking this thread but I'm fairly sure it'd be of high interest to more than a few here.

Along those lines could a current E-Series owner have their bodies and build outs swapped onto a 2021 chassis? Could the 2021 chassis be pre-fitted with the 4x4 drive train?
