Re: mpg help!

This thread is a good reminder to me to get that piece of plexiglas I have been meaning to buy and angle from the roof to the top of the roof rack, facing frontwards.

EDIT

I am actually going to call Aluminess tomorrow and see if they make or will fab something like this:

Could you start with an experiment, something like a couple of gutter mounts on the forward metal van roof, a crossbar, and a deflector like that mounted to the crossbar?

Likely much cheaper, and could be resold relatively easily if it doesn't work out, or if it works but you'd prefer a more solid, integrated solution that Aluminess would likely come up with.

Re: mpg help!

Hi Herb.

I was just down there a while ago, taking measurements.

Yes, the mounting is the issue. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow and go back when it's daylight and mull on it.

I wanted something low profile. Gutter mounts might be too obtrusive. My solar panel, which is mounted at the front of my roof rack, also presents a slight problem. Like I said, I was there, but just for a little bit. I need to go and study this a bit.

I'd like to come up with something that's non invasive, low-profile, and inexpensive.

Paul

Re: mpg help!

Duct tape and cardboard to test - doubt you will see much improvement, but worth a try.

Re: mpg help!

yeah, I want to do that too.. my rack is set back a couple feet from the front of the van and the sides angle down to the front for wind but I can here the expanded metal "howling" in the wind so some plexi might be next. also might try the Fitch fuel catalyst. they did a test on HPTV and it did quite well.
