New Amsoil OE 15W-40
Just checking if anyone was using or had any thoughts on the new Amsoil synthetic OE 15W-40?
I have been using the more expensive Amsoil Premium 15W-40 which is for extended drain intervals, but I find the year is up before 10,000 miles and I change the oil anyway.
The specs for both meet the CJ-4 requirement for the powerstroke 6.0l diesel, its just that the new oil is cheaper, and meant to be changed per the OEM recomendations, ie 7,500 miles for my 2007 6.0l.
I can keep using the Premium 15W-40 if it is that much better for the engine, but find I'm pretty much changing oil per Ford's recommendation (I also have the Amsoil 2 oil filter system).
Amsoil had this to say, "OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil is ideal for those applications excluded from the extended drain interval recommendations of Premium API CJ-4 Synthetic Diesel Oil due to persistent fuel dilution issues, including 2007 to present light-duty GM, Ford and Dodge diesel pickups...."
Just thinking of using the Amsoil OE 15W-40 next time as long as I change it out at 7,500 miles - Jim Fleschner, the SMB Amsoil dude told me to stay with the more expensive Premium 15W-40 but from what Amsoil states, seems the cheaper oil should do just fine?
