Well the main thing is you get your new van back, with a good transmission, and can get on to "Sportsmobiling" as planned I, too, enjoyed the fact that you posted the process and follow-up.

Van is running and home. Thanks everyone for your advice! Next up: fix the half-baked suspension lift--but that is for another thread.

Just FYI for future failures this is what I plan to do. I have the same year, engine and trans in a E250. I dont feel that the E40D is a very reliable.
