Oil Cooler System and EGR replacement now avail for E-series
I was researching how to modify the 6.0 and contacted Bulletproofdiesel.com and asked if the F-series kit is compatible. The F-series kit is not compatible. He said the E-series kit is coming out in about two weeks. These replacements would address the EGR Cooler and Engine Oil Cooler issues. If interested, contact. Gene Neal 602-620-1544

I have no affiliation with them. This is information I would like to have to fix it right, especially when it is this expensive.

Re: Oil Cooler System and EGR replacement now avail for E-se
I wonder about air-air oil coolers in our rigs. Driving slowly off-road doesn't afford much air flow through the cooler, and there is a radiator, intercooler and condensor between the cooler and the fan.
Anyone had oil/EGR cooler issues on a van?

Funny how the 1st sentence of the 1st article is wrong! Typo most likely. Says that the 6.0 was introduced in 93.
I'm tearing my van down next week for the EGR cooler delete, turbo cleaning/rebuild, and general 6.0 checkup.

Are you replacing the oil cooler? May be a good time. They say the Egr coolers go bad because the oil cooler gets plugged, restricting flow to them.

I had a friend who had his $4k repair on his F-350 denied for warranty for that very reason. Ford said the oil cooler (a few k miles out of warranty while the EGR was still under longer the emissions warranty) caused the failure if the EGR, which was very convenient. Very poorly handled by Ford. Along with that, any of the sensible upgrades to the engine (decent head lugs, etc.) automatically void the warranty. Ford had the temerity to tell him to take it easy on the truck (he was towing two horses when it failed). It's an F-350!?!?!?!?!

Re: Oil Cooler System and EGR replacement now avail for E-se
This is why it is helpful to monitor both ECT and EOT when driving the 6.0psd.
If both temps are similar (i.e., within 14deg max of each other, but ideally less than 10deg apart), the oil cooler is working fine and life is good. You know trouble is coming, via a clogged oil cooler, when the temp. differential begins to widen and persist during normal driving.
If you keep all fluids clean and fresh and monitor these variables, your odds of having a reliable 6.0pds are improved.
These aftermarket upgrades are probably helpful, but I doubt they make economic sense compared with diligent maintenance and monitoring ECT and EOT.
Kind of like an extended warranty, hard to know in advance if it makes economic sense to purchase.
But of course, not much about owning an SMB makes economic sense to the general public....

Still deciding that. I may as well, even though my van has been perfect for over 90K. If I'm in there though, why not! I'll just spend all of my $$. I'll also be adding an EGT gauge.

Re: Oil Cooler System and EGR replacement now avail for E-se
Looking at my Ford service manuals, they suggest that the oil and EGR cooler replacements are considered "in vehicle" repairs. Is that how you plan to do it?
