So I am ready to do the Amsoil filter and oil change but I still can't find the info. I need. I tried to call "Jim" who was referred to my from my other post but on number was for a pet manicure product (no kidding) and the other one was for a guy who said he didn't have a Jim working there. And do I really need to be a preferred customer to get this Amsoil product at a cost of $10-20? Seems like a P.I.T.A. to me....I just want the simplicity of going to the store and buying what I need to do an oil change. Will any synthetic oil work like Mobile 1? I'm just trying to understand what I am getting myself into here with this Amsoil/preferred customer membership thing...Thanks

I've been running Mobil 1 delvac which is specially formulated for diesel engines. I did lots of ready on the diesel forums and saw some test data that suggested that this oil resisted breaking down more than amsoil. Spend some time on dieselstop as there is lots of info there on oil. I also chose Mobil one because I can buy it from my oil supplier (I own an autoshop). I have never liked the way Amsoil sells there products.

I personally use Mobil 1 5W-30 in all three of our vehicles. The two that are still in warranty I change the oil and filter per the owners manual. Our 2000 Chev. Express van I change oil and filter once per year (usually 9k to 14k miles). I also do not use any "special" filter. Most the time I use Delco.
I get my Mobil 1 by the 6 quart case at Costco for about $4 per quart, sometimes less. I feel the protection is very adequate. If I lived in a very dusty area and not the midwest I probably would change oil and filter every 6 months or so.
I could save money if I used a good brand of mineral oil and changed it every 4k-5k miles but the once a year schedule is handy.
I'm feeling the same way, not a big fan of how I can buy this product. I'm doing a little more research to find out what I can and can't use instead...But I just keep getting more and more confused
