Plugs and fuel filter

So....I had my 100000 mile service done thursday: plugs, fuel filter, tranny fluid, etc. Drove it from park city to salt lake, come out of a store and the thing wouldn't start. It's a v-10. It would turnover, but no ignition. Called the dealer and had it towed back to his place. Neither one of us is psyched but I'm sure glad I wasn't a full-tank into road trip, which could have easily happened. Ran perfectly before I took it in but I heard new plugs at 100k was a good idea and that they are difficult to get at, which is why I had the dealer do it. Damn. Anybody got an idea on a cause? I didn't look to see if the fuel filter was wrong or backwards or whatever. Started right up at dealers place, of course. Reputable dealer that has a lot of vans. I guess he will fix it, but I'd like to know what you guys think.......thanks!
Joe

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

I'd rather not name them, yet. Park city ford dealer. I see a lot of quigley 4 wd rigs in his lot.

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

Did you try goosing the throttle while you crank?

Could be as simple as the fuel mix needing more time to adjust to the changes.

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

I tried that. Thanks. It's back at dealer and he can't get it to start either. But he's not the technician, just the scheduler guy. Thanks for answering though.

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

Guy says I need a fuel pump. Does anyone believe in coincidences like this?

If there is no fuel pressure, either there is a electrical fault not allowing power to the pump, or the pump is toast. I've had to install two pumps in the last 12 months. The first one got intermitent and wouldn't start at first but then came back to life. A pressure gauge showed the pressure to be way under spec. Less than 12 months later, the replacement pump went from running fine to zero pressure all at once. I'm hoping for better luck with this one................

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

How old is the van? I've noticed a stronger correlation with age than with miles. 10 years and they start going out regardless of miles it seems.

Re: Plugs and fuel filter

Another factor affecting fuel pump life is how often the tank is run less than 1/4 full. Knowing this can greatly reduce its longevity I nearly never let the tank even get to 1/4 before adding at least another 1/4 capacity or more.

My older E250 (2000, 275K miles) has its original pump and although the sending unit has a minor quirk its still humming right along, no issues starting or performance-wise either. It seems some pumps--when treated right---keep on running very well while others fail a bit earlier than expected.
