Preventative Maintenance

I though I'd share the story of what happened to me today. In preperation for towing my boat trailer over to Idaho next week I decided to take Gnarvan to the shop and have them flush the coolant. I got a call from the owner of the shop, who totally takes care of me, about 45 minutes after I dropped it off. It seems my radiator failed the pressure test. Basically it was a rusty piece of junk that was getting ready to take a giant expensive poop on me.

Long story short, 6 hours later I have a new radiator and the van is ready to pull the hot climbs between Portland and Boise on my Idaho trip next week. If I hadn't picked off this problem I'm sure the van wouldn't have made it all the way to Idaho and back. I can see it overheating and taking the engine and possibly the tranny with it. The tow bill would have been more than the radiator replacement.

Word to all out there. Take the time for preventative maintenance checks on vital components before you have to walk home.

Re: Preventative Maintenance

Great advice.

Couldn't more

As a former master tech and then a corporate automotive technician trainer I always tell people "take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you"

Have a fun and safe trip.
