Proper 7.3 oil change

I bought my van used. First thing I did was change oil and filter. I have had my mechanic working on the van and he asked if I changed the High Pressure oil for the injectors/ turbo? What? He said it is very common that people and shops do not change this oil, as it is seperate from the regular oil resevoir. When this oil does not get changed the turbo heats up and causes failures. So I had him do a proper oil change this morning. The oil that came from the HP/ turbo was SLUDGE! We cycled clean oil through a couple of times to clean.

I was not trying to panic anyone. I cant believe there would be a debate about this at all. I am in the same boat the guy that first posted in the thread. I changed my oil 2400 miles ago. Changed oil and filter. Today when we drained the oil from the HP we set it aside. Then drained the pan. Compared the two. The oil from the pan was dirty, but flowed nice. The HP oil ran like syrup!

I did not realize it was such a disputed theory. I guess the best way to be sure is try it yourselves. In reading everyones opinions on how the oil should circulate I can understand why people would say BS. Maybe the unfiltered oil that is pumped up top does not drain back in the pan as completely as people think. Three qts is a lot of oil to leave up top. If the oil that is forced through the injectors at a much slower rate then the pump is turning, then maybe it produces a back up(bottle neck) in the system. When engine is turned off the 3 qts will stay up top along with whatever junk is forced up with the unfiltered oil. This would create lots of sediment sludge to accumulate up to without anywhere to go, as it sits in the bottom of the resevoirs. One thing is that the ford mechanics put that plug there for a reason. Dont we have any Diesel mechanics in this crew?
