Q: good axle bushing kit?

Hi there,

after a covid year with not so much mls on my 6.0 EB E350, I‘ve still something to do with my front axle. After buying, I‘ve change the brake rotors, bearings, calibers, brake line, add new tires 245/75-16 to the Ford 7x16 rims.
But still, vibrations in the steering wheel and on a flat road the truck is going to the left. slowly, but everytime. Hopefully I have not to change the radius arms.

Next idea is to change all bushings. Had anyone of you doing this job and can help with a good address to buy? Maybe it is more complicated for my, I live in germany and not any company is willing to sell outside the us.

Thanks for any advice or other ideas what to do next to bushings.

cheers
Gunter

Have you rotated the tires? Just to rule out a bad one? You should not need to change the radius arms due to wear, but pre-'08 vans did wear out the radius arm bushings at the frame-bracket.

thanks carringb,

for that. Yes, we rotate the tires/rims - same issue.
fine with chnging the bushings. I buy new ones from moog, for my 67 Mustang and it's really good. Have seen they produce also for an E-Series - hopefully it will help

thanks
Gunter

Yes, the Moog ones are fine for vans as well. I recommend doing all of them as the same time.... Radius Arm to bracket, I-beam to frame, and antiroll-bar to I-beam.

If I remember right, there's a large metal washer or cup at the radius arm bushing that you need to re-use. It does not come with the new bushing. The new anti-roll-bar bushing will not the same. Moog makes one that is fully polyurethane, where the factory one is a metal and rubber bushing. The old one is hard to remove. The easiest was is to drive it out with a small air-chisel. The new one will go it easy.

That said.... that should help the drift. But it won't fix the vibration. You might have slop elsewhere. Maybe in the damper bushings? Or even in the ball-joints? Have you been able to watch the steering and suspension from below, while somebody else moves the steering-wheel side-to-side?

yes, I will buy a complete set of all pieces. a) I can update all and b) it is more expensive to order a second time from germany, instead to have a few pieces more.
A friend has a shop, not familiar with E-Series, because it‘s a rare van in germany, so I will do the changes together with my friend.

What we have checked, it seems I have a shorten? threaded bolt to fasten the front damper we will see what happend, maybe we can find out why someone did this.
Will order the moog parts, wait and see what happend when we try to do the job
