Rear differential oil level with ARB locker

Checked my rear differential gear oil last weekend and noticed that it was about 1/2" below the filler so I filled it back up (even with the filler hole on level ground). After driving it for the past few days I noticed a substantial amount of oil has squirted out of the breather tube. ARB's instructions say that it should be filled "level with the filler hole". Is it because the ARB differential is larger than stock and therefor has a larger displacement? Not really concerned since it will fix itself, curious if anyone else has had this issue.

Do you still have the stock cover? Make sure there's no way the compressor is on and possibly pressurizing the axle.

My Bronco's ARB solenoid vents some oil when de-energizing. Think it's from a twisted seal in the diff. You might want to check your solenoid.

No, I replaced it with a Dynatrac cover. The instructions that came with it said to fill it level. I still have the stock cover, I'll compare them and see if there is a difference in height.

Re: Rear differential oil level with ARB locker

The rear end shop I deal with told me they will spit oil if you fill to the level ARB recommends. Don't know how true that is. I just ran the breathers up higher and have never had that issue. I like em higher anyway.

Re: Rear differential oil level with ARB locker

When I put a Dynatrac cover on mine and filled to the bottom of the threads it also blew fluid out the breather. Even with an extended tube. I checked the two covers and found that the Dynatrac one had its filler hole a half inch higher than the Ford one. Seems a dumb move on Dynatracs part, but I just fill to a half inch low and all is well.

Yep, they put the hole a little higher. It should be done spitting 85w-140 in a few days. What a mess.....
