While doing the emergency brake shoes I found that my axle seal was weeping. I decided to tear it all apart and flush the rear end. I found some damage on the hub when I pulled the seal. There was evidence of silicone. Does this appear bad enough that my hub needs to be replaced?
Looking at your photos, it looks like the damage is on the side of the recess that the seal sits in. Is that correct? If that's the case, I'd say this is of no consequence whatsoever. Looks like someone got a little aggressive prying the old seal out. Might want to hit it with a little fine sandpaper or steel wool, but otherwise carry on.
Yeah I hit it with the dremel carefully. The seal unfortunately hung up there a bit in the press so I’ll pull it and redo tomorrow with a better jig. These seals have a rubber outside side that will heal this part from what I learned putting it in.
