Re: Sometimes I wander...

I recently bought a 2004 SMB (2WD, EB,5.4, E250, 45k mi) and it wanders just a little. I replaced the wheels, tires and brakes, I now want to add Bilstein shocks and a steering stabilizer. Can someone tell me the part numbers for the shocks and stabilizer and maybe where to get them?

Re: Sometimes I wander...

I've had my SMB for less than 2 mo now and it just doesn't feel right. Well I got the parts list to add the steering damper and got the brackets from the local Ford dealer and the shock from NAPA and I used 3 case hard bolts from ACE as opposed to using the Ford "screws". Anyway all hooked up yesterday and what a difference, smoother at high speed, around corners, over bumps and no more wandering or shimmy in the sterring wheel. Prior to the install I added new wheels, tires, brakes and had an alignment done and it still didn't feel right. Much better now!!!

Re: Sometimes I wander...

So, I have a 97 with the Action Van 6" lift. I got the Bilstein shock upgrade and the steering damper. The van is always having to be "driven" if you know what I mean? I can't just sit back and comfortably cruise the interstate without having to always correct the van in the lane I am in.

It has 17" Hankooks (285/70/17). I had an alignment and they were probably using factory settings. Is it possible to get a set of numbers they SHOULD be trying to get to get a better feel in the front end?

I just ask because this is going to be a worry when towing a trailer if the van is constantly being corrected and that wandering gets escalated through to the trailer and causes it to whip around...

You might want to read Scatter's newer post if you haven't.

The spring for return sounds promising. I just dumped the money into the stabilizer kit from Action Van and really hate to drop another $200 plus to get it "hopefully" better.

I was under the impression that the camber and toe numbers can be adjusted and if we use the OEM numbers, they can contribute and be worse for our lifted vans than if they were stock. I might have to check with a 4x4 Truck Performance Place for some answers.

Any of you guys find a good set of numbers for toe and camber, etc? My specs are listed above again.

Good read on Scatter's posts. Makes total sense. More of a shock vs a damper at that stage...

Re: Sometimes I wander...

Ah come on Scatter, you got me to buy those sky jackers and because of those I had to buy the deaver springs so the shocks would fit right. BTW how much did Deaver springs pay you ? Don't keep me out of the loop now!
