Yeah I kinda agree but you can always add to the site wiki. Even a section on good/bad shops is worth a post.

Sudden engine stop on freeway....

One thing that may help is the Car Talk Breakdown Lane app. It uses your phones/tablet location to find repair shops near your location. They are listed in distance order with closest first. The shops all have a 1 to 5 star rating based on listener comments. You can also search by zip code.

Hopefully I will never have to use. But it will give me something to do while waiting for the tow truck. It should also allow me to tell the TT driver where to tow the vehicle to.

Re: Sudden engine stop on freeway....

Both google maps and apple maps/yelp have ratings as well.

Going somewhere accredited (Napa autocare, AAA etc) is a REALLY good idea, and will also ensure you have nationwide warranty coverage on repairs. AAA is especially stringent with shops. They get audited periodically, and numerous complaints, or any unresolved complaints will result in their certification getting pulled. They also require ASE mechanics for the 6 major areas. It's amazing how many shops now no longer have ASE mechanics (even the dealers!).
