Ditching the "Ford Gold" coolant is a key factor in keeping the EGR and oil cooler from clogging, I have a bone stock 6.0 in my 2005 F350 that i bought new in 2005, at 15k miles I did a full flush of the cooling system and replaced the coolant with Fleetrite ELC and have not had any issues with the truck's EGR system since, mostly using the truck to haul a heavy toy hauler. Being in Cali I don't have the option to do an EGR delete but if I could I would just delete it.
