A few months with the DP tuner and all is well. It has really woken up the van. I mainly run the 60 daily. It seems to be the perfect tune. If I am going up to the mountains I will put into 60 mountain/daily. The only time I see smoke is when I really get on it. The 80 tune is fun, but not used often. I have been able to keep a higher speed while climbing before hitting 1220 on the EGT gage. I can't decide it the decel tune does much. I need to use it more to see. All in all, I am very happy.

TexGX, Do you have other performance mods on the van?
I am trying to figure out a plan for my van. It is almost a duplicate of your van.

Dokaman,

No other modifications. I do not want a loud exhaust so wanted to try this first. So far now issues and positive results. I takes the van from slow to not noticing it as an issue now. Enjoying it so far.

Jody loaded 4 tunes in my tuner... 80 eco, 60, tow, 40 tow, and a no start tune. I started with the 80 and it seemed to run hot in 100+ degree weather. I dropped to the 60 but I still had heat issues. So he redesigned the 60 tune and it seems to be a winner. The fan operation had to be changed. It comes on more frequently but keeps the engine temps w/i reason on long grades. I think I posted earlier that I switched from the SCT tuner which did OK but my engine seems to run better all around and I have a bunch of oddball parameters I can now monitor as compared to the scan gauge. Jody is a good guy to deal with and am totally satisfied with DP's service.

Power Hungry Performance (PHP) and DP tuner are by far the most expert tuners of the 7.3 and 6.0. The rest are those who bought the software that enables them to tweak the PCM coding that came out with the SCT tuner in the mid 2000s. Generally, they just increase the timing. The original Superchips for the 7.3 was Bill at PHP. I believe Jody at DPtuner and Bill worked on similar projects before going their separate ways and developing independent tuning devices.

I just installed DP and gauges yesterday. I have the 60hp tow, 60hp mountain daily, 80hp daily, high idle. I also did the 4" exhaust and a rebuild on the tranny with 3 disc TC and bullet proof ala John Wood style. The van is completely different. Here is my question now... I had 4:56 gears put in long ago because it couldn't climb a hill or pass anything. Turns out my tranny never put any power down and the hyper tech chip was very inadequate. The gearing now seems all wrong. It leaps off the line and is very quick through the gears. I see several of you have 3:73 gearing and with a DP tune. Do you hold in gear going over the passes? I tow over Willamette Pass which is 5000' and is a long 6% grade. I'm really thinking I need to undo my gear change and go to 4:10 or something near that. (4:30 or 3:73). I'd love to hear experiences.

Do you tunes have both PCM and TCM tuning from DPtuner? If so, ask if they will revise the tranny tune to hold the shifts longer. It doesn't sound like gearing. Or, reinstall the stock strategy and see if that makes a difference.

Vandiesel-
Do you have an EGT gauge? If so, loacation of sensor, and what are your EGtemps on a long hill pull in 60 or 80(whichever you use)?

What tire size are you running?
