Tire/wheel combo

Hey everyone....

So I just replaced my tires. Decided to go with some pirelli Scorpion AT's. They are 10ply E-rated tires. Since my van is 2wd I kept them the same size, but wanted to ask if yall have recommendations for some after market wheels? Ive checked pro-comp, eagle and a bunch of other companies and they all dont recommend running a 16x8 on the current tire size.

thanks,

Mike

Huh? I guess the question would be why they don't recommend that.

What size are your new tires, and what size are your current rims?

Tire size is 245-75-16 and the current rim is 7" wide. I guess its standard for the manufacture to say "we dont recommend it..."

Normally id just go ahead and run it, but since i tow alot id rather be sure running a 8" wheel isnt gonna cause problems.

245 is 9.6" wide and the rim is 8". I don't see a problem for highway, but I would be careful about airing down too far. You want to get other opinions though, no sense on risking your safety just on my opinion.

Another tact would be to sell the rims and tires together and buy rims and tires together that are better suited.

Not concerned about the airing down issue. The only dirt this Van is ever on is a regular campsite or the trail head where I unload the Jeep. Basically I never plan on airing them down for traction.

Thanks Jage.

What is the tread width of your new tires?
I tried to check with the manufacture's website for your new tires and was unable to find any rim width recomendation or tire dimensions.
These wheel sales locations are probally concerned that the wheel would be too wide for the tire and stick-out past the sidewall of the tire so then your first curb "kiss" could cause some major damage to the wheel.
Have you been able to find any 7" wide rims? Probally very difficult to find.....

Check the spec's on those tires. The TireRack lists rim width as 6.5-8" for that size.

You should have no problem.

Your tire dealer needs an education.
