Sorry. Try it now. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

Re: Too Cool for School

Success! My guess is the added vents are allowing more air to flow through the radiator allowing for faster cool down. Might need to partially cover up the vents in really cold weather. Ever notice how semi trucks partially cover up their radiators during the winter.

Would be interesting to see a comparison of the same run with no vents open, hood vent only and side vent only in order to understand the true impact of each modification.

Re: Too Cool for School

Did you apply thermocouples to the tranny for the reading unit or are you tapping into the Ford sensors through the multi pin socket under the Dside dash?

The coolers each have a 175F sensor on them which can be wired in. Since I'm using the old driving lights' wiring and relay, I turn the fans on manually using the driving light switch.

Re: Too Cool for School

Hey Tom, Can you do a similar test with the hood vents covered to see how much the side vents work alone? I would love to install side vents but not too much of a want to deal with the hood.

I don't expect much from the side vents--they just look cool. You'd have to remove the fenders and make some openings in the inner fender to make them functional. Frankly the scoop under the bumper is probably making the biggest difference with the removal of the transcooler from in front of the radiator coming in second.

I was hoping those with ScanGauges, or something that reads actual ECT, could share their experience. How fast does a "normal" 6.0 SMB cool down?

Too Cool for School

I spent the day on Imogene Pass starting at about 9000 feet and finishing at 13187. The engine would get to 216F and cool down when the fan came on. The transmission never saw more than 184F, with the fans on, while playing mountain goat in low range on very steep, slow roads. A real result IMO.
