Tranny Crapped out! now fixed:)

I had a thread asking tranny overhaul as I had a feeling the it was not shifting right..Revving higher sometimes then a little bump when it caught.
I had it in for service but everything checked out fine.
Well yesterday It crapped on me. While driving it slipped out of gear when I turned off the overdrive while climbing a hill.Slipped out of gear refused to go in any forward gear. Only had power in reverse..tried everything but left me stranded on a highway exit lane.yay..
Any thoughts on what it might be?

Re: Tranny Crapped out!

Dang! Sorry to hear. Start a thread at ford-trucks.com with your make and model year engine type and transmission type if known with the word "transmission" in the title and then shine a search light with the letters "MK" into the cloudy night sky and hope that Mark Kovalsky shows up.

Good luck and sorry to hear it.

Re: Tranny Crapped out!

Mark K is indeed the go to guy for Ford transmissions, FTE has a dedicated forum just for transmissions: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum69/.

Depending on your location he might be able to recommend someone he knows or has worked with in the past.

Re: Tranny Crapped out!

I got the call from Transmission shop in North Vancouver ended up taking my van to.
Full rebuild is in order
forward clutch failure, overdrive something shot and on and on...
2649.$Cad quote i got for the rebuild which will have warranty etc.
I called my wife to give her the bad news and she says" I thought it was going to be at least 4000"
She was actually relieved at the price (keeper)..
Anyhow Im really looking forward to driving it with a proper functioning transmission.
I now realize I had been unconsciously babying it. I previously had dodge b250 rig and never had any problems with tranny. Still drove nicely when I sold it.

Re: Tranny Crapped out!

It has/had approx 87K. No idea how it was driven or maintained by the previous driver as I bought it last year. At least now it will be good as new...

Re: Tranny Crapped out!

I'm just curious what year/engine/transmission you have? (Maybe I missed it somewhere but don't see it in your profile.)

I had no problems with the E4OD in my '97 with 5.4 (150k and still going with next owner).

The 4R100 in my '98 with V-10 had an internal flaw at 45k (and perhaps since before then with PO, I'll never know), although it never quit working (apparently due to some luck as it easily could have). I voluntarily had it taken care of, plus the whole thing made more robust, at around 55k.
