I have been told the 4r100 was an option behind certain 5.4s. Worthy of consideration if going the replace the trans route.

Well, since the filter was changed the issue has mostly gone away. If the old one had never been changed (I know I never did due to the huge mess involved in dropping the pan) and it was partly clogged, that could explain the slight hesitation while the pump built pressure on start up. At this point, I think I'm going to just run with it and see what happens..........
