V-10 engine oil leak

I am trying to pinpoint this new leak which seems to have started after a mechanic overfilled the oil quantity. I have pulled the doghouse and on top of the bell housing is a small chome capped device. Is this an engine blow-by port? It seems as if the oli is coming from there but I am unsure. No oil showing by the valve covers, it is from the bell housing area> Any suggestions appreciated. 2007, v-10

Re: V-10 engine oil leak

Upon lots of inspection and checking all the tranny pan bolt torques, i curiously turned the drain plug and viola! It was only finger tight but the aerodynamics of the air beneath the van at speed didn't show a leak here.
This is a strange thing to just loosen up on it's own. A post work drive is in order.

Re: V-10 engine oil leak

the "mechanic" overfilled the crankcase AND left the drain plug loose?.....i'd go back to doing the oil change myself, for sure.
