Anyone have input on the difference I'm seeing in angles from the Driveshaft? Seems like a big difference between 7 degrees and 2.5 degrees.
As I have said before above, now is the time to fix that incorrect alignment - caused by your rear lift.

Typical output center line is 5* down, but 7* is not out of line depending on the rake of your van.
If the output is pointing down 7* than the pinion should be pointing up 7*. Simple fix NOW and no reason not to do it.

Re: What Axle do I want? 9.75 or 10.5 Full Float

I borrowed a picture to show what I'm up against. Input is very welcomed since this is the first time I will be doing an axle swap.

"A" is the angle coming out of the TC to the Driveshaft: My angle is currently around 7*
"B" is the angle going to my Pinion flange from my Driveshaft : My angle is currently 2.5*

What is not shown or easily explained in the photo is how the Diff is in relation to the spring pads. Like I already explained, my current Dana 60, angle here is 11*. I don't know how much I can correct the angle coming from my TC.

I guess I can turn the diff up a little but I know the pinion will twist up a little during acceleration so I can't go too far and not enough to help the angle coming from the TC. The only other thing that I've read is to mess with the location of the Transfer Case.

Thanks Baja for the input but this may beyond my ability to understand.

OK, I see the problem here. The angles we care about are not the angles between the output and the drive shaft or the drive shaft to the pinion. What you want to know is the degrees from horizontal of the output and the degrees from horizontal of the pinion.

It is essentially the same thing... but.

Bigvans, thanks for these links... this stuff is great...

Smugdoug, I may be completely wrong and I certainly dont want to confuse you but I think that what Bajasportsmobile is trying to say is to measure the angle that the output shaft on your tc is at rest. The picture you posted is confusing to me as it looks like it is measuring the angle of the shaft or something.

Make pretend it has a perfectly straight driveshaft with no u joints or a pipe coming out of the tc.
What would that angle be from the level ground?
Whatever that angle is down you want your pinion shaft to be up.
All you are loking for is for the output and input shafts to be parallel., with each other, nothing more.

So using the straight drive shaft out of the tc and it was five feet long and you had another shaft five feet long coming out of the pinion shaft they would be the same distance apart all the way from the front to the rear.

Does that help at all? Clear as mud right?

That does help Ultrasport, and that is a great link BigVans, and Baja all I can say is, I'm a little slow!

Re: What Axle do I want? 9.75 or 10.5 Full Float

Here are some pics bringing the axle home after the Pads were welded on. I'm very happy with the condition of this axle. It looks like the brake pads are almost new and we'll see about the rotors. I had planned on replacing the rotors for but maybe not. I'll get the diff cover off today.

Since I may not need the brakes I may invest in a nice Diff. Cover. Anyone with recommendations for a good Cover.

More pics to come, Later.

Re: What Axle do I want? 9.75 or 10.5 Full Float

I like your easy (self?) loading device... Its a great way to move an axle...Is that idea patten pending?

I might build one of those today..

I found a cheap Dana 60 full float I might buy just because...

Good luck with your install? Work smart not hard...
