What do we think of this?

http://www.pureflowairdog.com/airdogII.php

Convincing video: http://www.pureflowairdog.com/how-airdog-works.php

Makes sense that there are microscopic air bubbles in diesel fuel. My old 300TD and 2.5TDI Syncros had a clear fuel line to check for large air bubbles indicating a problem.

Air bubbles bad, engine no like, run poor. But with positive pressure to the main injector pump from the pusher pump, I wonder if tiny air bubbles are such an issue.

Re: What do we think of this?

Here's another brand. It seems to have a fuel heater option and does not replace the entire pusher pump: http://www.fassride.com/shop/fuel-air-s ... series.php

That would be my question also.

I guess you replace one pump/filter with another pump filter.

I'd question if the aftermarket pump is more reliable than the Ford pump. What do the filters cost? Can you eliminate the upper filter?

I'm just not willing to spend $5-600 to find out if it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

The real question you need to ask yourself is "how is the fuel returned to your tank now?" Looking at the video the sloshing put very little air in the fuel. The high pressure return dumping into the top of the tank put most of the air in the fuel. If your return line discharges at the bottom of the tank below the fuel line then little air is introduced into the tank. This would be something to check before spending the money. It may be cheaper to modify he return line.

You can duplicate this test by running water from a hose into a bucket. Hold he nozzle above the water level and you will see lots of air entrainment. Put the nozzle below the water line and their will be little entrainment.

If I remember correctly some tanks come with baffles in them to reduce sloshing. Something else to check.

Re: What do we think of this?

Not a problem, just maybe an improvement?

The pump looks to be of very high quality--probably better than the Ford. It looks like a mini oil pump:

Re: What do we think of this?

The fuel gets aerated when pumped into the tank at the gas station, through sloshing while driving--especially off road--and, evidently, when returned from the engine. With tiny air bubbles in it, the fuel will compress by the main injection pump and not have the same pressure it should at the injectors. I think that is the idea of the separator.

Re: What do we think of this?

So, does that mean you are going to spring for one and report back on better mileage and performance?

I may. It also incorporates a two micron fuel filter which may, hopefully along with keeping air out the injectors (which I was balled out for in my fuel capacity test) keep injectors from failing in far away places .

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with them.

Re: What do we think of this?

I was ready to install a F.A.S.S. on my. Mercedes MBE4000, but after more research I learned that the Mercedes fuel system already does exactly what this claims to do. Something to do with the fuel return first going back into the filter instead of directly into the tank. I think that depending on the design of the fuel system , it might be of benefit.

But you don't really need a good reason to buy more stuff for your van, do you Z?

Re: What do we think of this?

Google reviews. I am asking my diesel tech about it. Questions I have is the pump size. The qa page on their site stated do not over power the pump because it may affect the injectors. For less than 500 hsp use the 100. I am not sure what my hsp is on the 6.0. Then you need to consider current or future tunes, head studs etc. Some get the 165 and say it works fine. It has positive reviews.
