What is up

I got a 2013 E150 EB 5.4 liter with RSC and something scary has happen twice to me now. Driving down the road at speed 45mph and the warning tone comes on motor shuts down brake and abs light come on and service advance track indicator comes on. At this point no power steering or brakes. Has anyone ever experienced anything like? Is this a know problem? Searching sites now. Engine runs fine, idles perfect and starts right back up. Thanks for any help.

Damn, that would be scary. Do you have a code reader? Kind of sounds like a short though.

No i don't have a code reader. It funny that all the dash stays powered up so I don't think it is a battery issues. I have not done any modtifacation to the battery on electrical system yet so it all standard right now. I am going to setup an appointment with dealer not sure how that will go.

Warranty issue? My van died and would not start. Ford paid for towing and repair. They had to fix a loose connection in the dash. I am 2nd owner. More difficult to troubleshoot if it's intermittent...

Check your battery terminals!

All the warning lights including RSC are simple symptoms of the van losing power. Since the vans use engine driven vacuum and power steering boost, that's why those go out too.

It would be VERY unlikely for random stalling to be caused by anything other than loss of electrical power. If you still had battery power, and switched off your ignition, you would still have brakes and power steering because the transmission would stay in gear and spin the motor.

The alternator actually doesn't run 100% of the time (heat / duty cycle) so that's why a bad battery connection can cause it to stall. That said.... running too long with an intermittent open circuit at the battery can damage the alternator.

It only takes a momentary break in power to shut off the PCM. If you were watching the dash, you'd probably see it flicker.

Carringb thanks for the info I will check connections in the morning I did not notice any flickering of dash other then warning like coming on but it does seem like power was shut off to the engine. I will see what i find under the hood. Thanks

Also check the big cable connection at the Battery Junction Box under the hood. That is the main feed to the Smart Junction Box... which, because it is part microcontroller, would do funky things with an interruption in power.

Well checked battery connection and all connections I could find everything looks perfect clean tight etc. checked for codes and of course found none. And it did it again today this time it was very fast shut down indicators flash show check brakes and started right back up on its own all within a 100 feet at about 25 mph. Don't know what to think except hope for the best when I take it in tomorrow.

Dang, I was hoping for better news when you checked your connections. Stuff like this scares me, the newer the vehicle the worse.

Keep us posted

Unexplained Vehicle Shutdown

Another thought is, what about interference from some fancy alarm or cutoff system. Does your vehicle have a security system? May need to troubleshoot it.
