Adding an Electric Water Heater to already built SMB

I just picked up a 2002 EB50 SMB 7.3. It has no propane.

Looking at water heaters for use in the sink and rear shower and would like to keep propane out of the equation.

Would love to hear opinions on the 2 choices I narrowed down below:

A) Eemax http://www.eemax.com/EX2412M
Or
B) SMB option "110V fast recovery w/bypass valve for $606"

Thanks in advance for your input.

Keep in mind any electric heating unit you will need to use on shore power. A standard van electrical setup simply won't accommodate that kind of draw effectively (IMHO).

Now, if you are talking about using it while plugged in an instant-heat water heater will work dandy. It doesn't necessarily need to be RV specific - you may find something for under a kitchen sink that would suffice just fine, provided you have adequate wiring to support it.

Thanks,

Was planning on using a Honda eu2000i or shore power for the water heater.

Was contemplating the smb diesel plate install but not sure $1500 is worth it.

I don't believe the Honda will run the EEMax heater. The EU2000 won't supply 2000 watts continuously, and the EEMax needs 2400 watts.

Either you would need a 3000 W Generator or maybe the SMB unit uses less power. I don't know the specs on the SMB unit. You should contact SMB to find out exactly what the specs on that unit are.

Thanks Mike.

Honda 3000 is too big for the rear galley Aluminess box. So, I guess I'll count out that option and hope the SMB unit requires less power.

Waiting to hear back from Peter.

Re: Adding an Electric Water Heater to already built SMB

Peter at SMB stated the Honda eu2000i generator would suffice in powering the SMB 110v water heater unit. Looks like 750w is the requirement.

Looks like that might be the ticket for me.

He also said it takes about 15-min to heat the 2.5 gallon tank and it does take up a bit of storage.

Re: Adding an Electric Water Heater to already built SMB

The spec sheet says it is a 2/3 gallon tank.

A storage tank is why the power requirements are less. It can slowly heat the water with a lower powered heater element. And, for limited water useage, it makes a lot of sense. Let us know how big it is, how much space it takes.
