Cassette toilets

Anybody have or want a cassette toilet in a SMB? We've rented extensively overseas and really like the cassette units. From what I can tell in a SMB, unless you locate the toilet in the rear, the black water tank capacity is very limited, not much more than the cassette would be anyway, and cassettes are much easier to empty, IMHO.

It's an issue for us, as we may want to take our camper to Europe, where dump stations are not the norm.

There does not appear to be any reason you couldn't install one in a SMB. I am planning to find out on my visit to SMB West in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Cassette toilets

I've never used a cassette, but the portapottie works for us just fine.

A portapottie doesn't hold as much waste, but it does stow away into a very short space, leaving more open space for other uses (like hanging out). Our portapottie is pretty easy to dump as well, shouldn't be more difficult than the cassette.

Not sure I would want to cut another big hole in the side of the van either.

Re: Cassette toilets

You can install the cassette toilet against a wall with the opening towards the wall, needs a cut out and door or against a door so that you can remove the cassette thru the door opening. Dont forget to vent the toilet in the second layout.

Re: Cassette toilets

We had one in a pop up and loved it, but as stated above, you'd have to cut a hole in the outside of the van, unless there are other styles of cassettes I don't know about. I like the outside hole so you can empty it without the possibility of a spill in the van, but I honestly can't think of another reason why a porta potty wouldn't work as well or even better due to the option to remove it when not needed. We remove ours in the winter and throw it in the garage so we don't have to winterize it or anything. Also, every now and then, depending on our site and privacy, we just take the porta potty out and sit it outside the van. We have also put it in a tent (a big tent) for the ladies nightly duties a time or two. Lots more options with a porta potty, IMHO.............
