Childrens seating

I know this subject has been broached a few times, but I never found anything related to my thoughts.


We are building a layout similar to the SMB RB33, which puts a goucho behind the drivers seat, and the kitchen cabinetry on the passenger side behind the barn doors.

This is an ideal layout for my wife and I.

We now need to modify our design to fit a 6 year old little girl as well (life is funny ).

I cant stomach putting her on the side facing bench. Ive seen the videos.
Adding a third capt chair by the barn doors is a huge space filler. not enthralled by that either.

My thought is, why not add a forward facing jump seat to the side of the kitchen cabinet that can take a booster seat?

Obviously there would need to be a steel infrastructure to mount to.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone have a sweet(comfy) jump seat theyve seen? basically anything that takes up less floor space than a capt chair is an option.

I posted a reply to someone else suggesting the Ford factory jump seat, it also folds down into and arm rest when not in use:

It looks a hell of a lot more comfy than the typical van jump seats I saw and it has the integrated seat belt in it too.

You might also give these guys a call, they have a jump seat option and their seats are specifically made with the kiddos in mind.

I have been looking at these... they fold sideways out of the way and can be color matched and can have hi backs to...

We originally bought for our son but it is surprisingly comfortable. Both my wife and I have sat in it for long trips.

There are some great suggestions here! Adding a seat between the front seats might not be all bad either. maybe with a folding back that forms a tabletop when down.

great info from all. I have been debating buying cargo vs passenger van. Ive been stuck on not having airbags in second row if my grandson in car seat is traveling, but hey many of us survived our childhoods in station wagons!

You don't want Air Bags with a Car Seat - that is why you can disable them...

Second row typically do not have Air bags either - no dash board the fly into.
