Cupholders and doghouse

I'm wondering if that cupholder/etc. compartment that attaches to the front of the doghouse (engine cover) can be easily detached. Possibly there are some screws under the insulation on the backside of the doghouse. There is a little clip at the bottom of the cupholder device, but couldn't get it to release anything. Wife wants more leg and foot room, otherwise I may have to buy a Chevy. Am thinking I could get a small cupholder replacement device without the storage below. Thanks for any comments (but not about the wife) Stosh

I don't know if they are all the same but on mine you pull on the little clip on the bottom and lift straight up. If yours has never been removed before it might just be tight.

Re: Cupholders and doghouse

I had SMB-West remove mine for a similar reason. They installed a couple of fold down cup holders. After installing a transfer seat on the drivers side it took care of my leg room issues and I had the original one put back in. The transfer seat allows any seat to move up, down, forward and backward on it's own track....but it must be used in a forward position for driving.

Good Luck,

Linda

Re: Cupholders and doghouse

They have used about 7 different models from 1996-2009 and as far as I know they all interchange. they did have a pretty shallow one with no cup holders and a small glovebox. The one in my 01 came from a 07.

Re: Cupholders and doghouse

I'm just curious how you'd get past the new unit if trying to walk to the back of the van. I already have trouble with the old unit, which is what I have.

Don't have that unit. Just came across the pic on a website while searching for something.

Re: Cupholders and doghouse

All this talk about the console made me curious, so I reached down, found the clip and pulled up. Wow! What a difference that makes! (2008 model) That doghouse is almost flush with the dash! Excuse the coffee stains, I really didn't know they were there.
