detector beeps when AC is on

When we have the StarCool air on in our 2006 SMB, the CO detector starts beeping. This happens when we're parked, not while driving.

The detector is near the floor, below the gaucho. If we raise the gaucho and leave it propped open, the beeping stops. There does seem to be a lot of heat under there, from the converter I guess.

We would like to be able to sit on the couch when the air is on. Does anyone know why this happens or how to solve it?

Thanks.

I'm afraid to even comment on that. I would check with SMB for sure to be on the safe side. Have you set any other CO detector near the one that is triggering to see if it also goes off?

Yes, CO is not something to play around with... you're trying to be cool in a closed van after all.

Go get it independently tested with another meter, and fixed if you need to. If a separate meter doesn't detect CO, then you can start looking at other things (namely AC is making the voltage drop so the low voltage alarm is going off).

Re: detector beeps when AC is on

Are you sure it is the CO detector, usually the detector mounted low is the LP gas detector, while the one up on the cornice or upper cabinet is the CO detector.

I've seen many things make the LP Gas detector start beeping. Cleaning chemicals, porta-potti chemicals, etc... The Starcool air return grill is most likely close to the LP gas detector, perhaps it is drawing contaminated air across the LP gas detector when you have the Starcool "on". Check for any chemicals stored under the Gaucho.

If it is the CO detector mounted low, please know that low house battery voltage will make the CO detector beep, it is possible the Starcool is reducing your house battery voltage to the point that the CO detector is going into "low power" mode and alerting you of the fact.

I hope this helps.
