Re: EB 27 vs. 31 w/PH - rear or middle dinette?

We have the 27 and will echo most of what Brian said above. This layout flows a lot better for passengers than the rear dinette, IMO. We did qualify as an RV, so have seatbelts for 10, though more than 4 on the benches is pushing it unless they're small. No problems with the kids getting up and down from the penthouse with the lower bed deployed, and at 5' 9" I would agree this is probably max height for sleeping down below in this config.

One thing to consider re: dinettes, is that you can get them made as long (wide) as you want. So, if you are too tall to sleep across the van, you can have the dinettes made long enough so you can sleep oriented lengthwise in the van. Of course, this presumes that you have enough room in your layout to accept the extra length. If you are doing a basic build, without much else, this shouldn't be an issue for you. I assume the extra cost is not too much to make them longer.

Re: EB 27 vs. 31 w/PH - rear or middle dinette?

Thanks, everyone!

We did our mockup test last night. I measured 73 inches from the headboard and blocked off the end of the bed with suitcases. Hubs said it's tight, but it'll work. He tried several different positions. He said he wouldn't want it as his fulltime bed at home, but for camping, it'll be fine. I asked if he thought it would be OK for long term camping - a week, two weeks, maybe three? He said yeah, fine.

We'd still like to try out a real one, but for now it looks like the W dinette stays. Plus, if the kid isn't with us, we've got the PH, too.

Hi Dia;

I'm glad you have a sense of humour about my reply. I've been killing myself laughing ever since I read your post.

Thank you! A laugh like that is great for one's sense of wellness. Especially after a root canal and a hernia operation.

Regards,

Gavin

I'm pretty laid back about such things. In fact, if I'd been here longer and had a better idea about what one could get away with, I might have come back with a remark about tie downs.

Hi Dia;

Even your subject line is open to interpretation: "rear or middle dinette?"

Thanks for the laughter. Priceless.

Regards,

Gavin

Leave the suitcases in the bed, and ask him again in 2 or 3 weeks...

Cheers,
Brent
