Fiberglass vs Sprayed Foam Insulation

I am planning to get a new van fairly soon and wondered if anyone has used sprayed in foam insulation instead of fiberglass for the conversion. Is this an option from Sportsmobile and if not, does anyone know whether they would still do a conversion if you had the van sprayed? Seems like it would be a good sound deadener as well as very air tight.

Thanks for any insights.

i prefer the spray foam, but if not done right, the van/sheetmetal will rust from inside out because of air condensation/moisture in the pockets between the outer wall and the foam....

Great point...but correct application? SMB? Some of the stuff they do would be better done by the owner. Then again I could do something that I might regret down the road. Can you be more specific? What is the correct way/procedure, and material.

I've read that SMB won't do spray foam.

The following is from SMB West

The Ford van has double wall body construction. This construction affects
our ability to have our insulation against the Ford exterior wall in all
areas. When the Ford inner wall prevents us from installing our insulation
against the Ford outer wall, we then install our insulation between the wall
panel we install and the Ford inner wall. We use R-11 fiberglass insulation
on the walls and Foilray insulation in tight areas . It is worth noting that
while a spray type insulation could be used to fill the space between the
Ford inner and outer walls, this could accelerate outer body rust because
the factory Ford drains located in the base of the rocker panel would be
obstructed. All Ford vans, including completed Ford Passenger vans, include
these unobstructed rocker panel drains from the factory and we feel it is
best that they maintain their function.
