Ford Van: Flooring Replacement Ideas?

I'm currently rapping up some work on my new DIY (2008) Quigley Ford van. We added a sofa-sleeper in rear and want to strip out the semi-attached factory installed rubber flooring and replace with something more appealing. Needs to host kids, dogs, wheelchair, beach runs and extended voyages yet I'd still like to have the van appear plush inside.

Anybody have suggestions? Or horror stories?

Myself, I weighed cleanup over plush. That's why I got leather seats over cloth. I even throw a cheapo Wal-mart rug down to protect the SMB rug and replace it when it gets beyond the beyond. I just like carpet so I'm not standing on a cold floor. YMMV

Dave, I'm leaning same way. My local shop is preparing a quote to in stall a hard rubber-type floor surface throughout. I like the idea of then using some door-mat style mats (carpet) to keep things cozy.

I guess I better peruse you 20+ pages of photos now.

You can see some of the flooring SMB offered in 2006 at this site They might have more. The diamond plate rubber is heavy duty and easy to clean. I like it better than the marine vinyl I have.

FWIW, I have the Loncoin flooring. While it does look nice, I find it difficult to clean.

Carpet tile! I put carpet tile in my van and I love it! It's nice and plush yet durable since the bottom layer of the tile is rubber. Super easy to install and replace if you ever need to and you can get pretty much any color/style you can imagine.

I may have some pics in my gallery? If not, I can snap a few if you are interested?

Re: Ford Van: Flooring Replacement Ideas?

We have a vinyl floor in our SMB, and I wouldn't want to go with anything else. Well, that's not entirely true. I would like to go with something other than the worn and dated vinyl floor that we have, but I would definitely go for hard surface again. Sweeping out dust, dirt, mud, dog hair, snow, and cracker pieces is a lot easier that trying to get them out of carpet.

But, like daveb, I do like the feeling of carpet, as does our dog, so we throw a cheap rug over the vinyl and change it when it gets too worn.

We had the diamond plate flooring. They look great, but hurt your feet when you are walking on them. I would go for the loncoin for our floor.

Rubber diamond plate and am very happy with it. It takes some patience to clean though.
