Gaucho - couch upgrade options

Hi!
We have a 1992 e250 extended base sportsmobile.

It has short couches on both sides that pull out into a small bed. Good for kids, too short for grown ups.

Both couches have failed. The bottom cushions were attached to a piece of fabric-wrapped mdf with a piano hinge. In theory you slide the cushion forward and tilt it up to access the house battery on the driver’s side or the water tank on the passenger’s side. Pull them both out and voila, a bed.

In reality, the mdf slider hangs on the water tank and the little row of 1/2” screws have all ripped out.

Has anyone reengineered these beasts or replaced them with something better.
