I did some searching and couldn't really find the answer: what is the normal width of a folded-down SMB gaucho bed? Can two people really sleep comfortably on one? Doesn't look very wide in the photos I've seen. Thanks!
Like Gahamby said, just depends on how much you like each other, and how much comfort you need in order to sleep. I have had 2 80lb dogs, my son(8 at the time), myself and my wife all in our gaucho! I am only 5'8" and wife is 4'11" so we are not the largest of humans, but still. We were stealth camping in a parking lot so PH top was a no go.
My wife and I can definitely sleep comfortably on the gaucho when it is just the 2 of us. The only issue is that the flip over part is not wide enough so I always get the crack while my wife snuggles up comfortably with a pillow along the van wall.

If I remember correctly, Sportsmobile will build to any available width, it just depends on the space available in your design. We have a fairly narrow dinette that sleeps 1, but it lines up with 1-person platform bed adjacent to it. The only gotcha is that the support and slider mechanisms at either end prevents it from being a completely unobstructed double bed when the dinette is unfolded, but only slightly.
According to our original design plans, which were standard in 2001, our gaucho is 45" wide (from the inside insulated wall) x 74" long, but I think the actual length is 72". (I'm 6'2", and my toes hang over just a bit.) Pretty sure the 45" is right, though. It's snug, but it works for us, even if you don't fit like spoons all night long.

Hike or die (or maybe just keep driving that Sportsmobile into the sunset).
So I’ll answer my own question: the van I was looking at (and bought on Friday) has a gaucho that is 46” wide, plus an additional 3” with the inset wall. A bit narrower than our current “Dinette-W” setup but hopefully we can make it work.
