Ha, I remember you mentioning that sometime in the recent past Chris, and thought it was a novel idea (still do)... if you don't mind (In an effort to make myself feel better), would you mind sharing how many times you guys have actually had to 'repeat' the sequence?

.....that looks like a new indoor record for bent crossbars......not sure they are salvageable.....

...manual top no less.......reminds me of my neighbor who chopped his thumb off with a saw ....I figured table saw and after a few minutes he mentioned hand saw....

But if you get replacements I would sleeve them with Cro-Mo tubes since it's the time to do it when they are out.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of the tubes being bent that way on a manual top [emoji15] You must be pretty strong (although I guess the lever principle comes into play here). Sorry that it happened to you. I’d call Field Van first thing on Monday and get a reservation slot as I think any way you look at it you’ll need to get new bars [emoji853]

SportsMobile Texas (512-835-4409) has a jig they can send you for a reasonable fee to straighten it. (Wonder how I know?)

I may be compromising some part of the whole pop top system but I just removed the rear hook. I almost forgot it once while putting up the top and knew that I’d soon be bending bars.

My Volkswagen only had one latch, just a front one. So, I figure that 2 latches up front are good enough. I don’t drive backwards fast enough for the wind to pull up the top from the rear I figure.

Am I missing something?

I'd be a little concerned about the additional abrasive motion the rear will experience since its not secured. More motion will likely degrade your gasket quicker, rub down roof paint, etc.
Then there is the worst case scenario to consider, what do you think the result would be with the rear unhooked in a roll over (or any crash)? I don't have the answer to that either, but can't imagine the outcome would be better than a secured top.

LOL Two...we have only had to repeat a few times since then...anger at oneself and NEVER wanting to repeat, we are both (usually) at the point/ready to popping the top and are paying attention to one another(more lol)...

And in all honesty, I bent the first time (yes the FIRST time) on our maiden voyage..forgot hook RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE, above drivers side... took a lot of scenic fun to feel OK/not guilty-hard on myself/forget but 9luckily) it still went up and down.

Second time, KTG, forgot rear hook, BUT caught it in time and didn't bend it...still upset her for days and born was the "touch the hook" procedure...

and since it is a bit juvenile+time+new bars have made it so we can laugh about it now...
