Hooking up a grill to the propane fill valve?

On my SMB, for whatever reason, they could not put in a place for me to hook up my grill. I was wondering if it is possible to connect to the fill valve to consume from there?

Help!

Just did mine after seeing the setup TexGx had, it's called extend-a-stay or stay-longer from Marshal, here's the Camco one....

Re: Hooking up a grill to the propane fill valve?

I had one of these on my last van very handy!
Use an inline propane filter when you use a hose and a propane accessory.

My stove was ruined by an oil that gummed it up.
Caused by the plasticizers leaching out of the hose and clogging the regulator and gas jets, happens over time especially the longer hoses. Mine was a 25 ft hose . I cleaned my stove jets over and over trying to figure out what was up.
I found out about the hose issue on rv.net.
Next time I put one in it will have a filter for sure..

Hmmm, I'm confused (or dumb), so this goes at the tank side?

Open your propane door, it goes In-between the tank output and the regulator that feeds the supply line to the van. You may not need to depending on your setup, but I had to sneak my tank forward a bit by moving where it was bolted to the frame and shove the regulator back by loosening the straps and carefully bending the copper line to gain enough space to fit the almost 5" part in, I could have cut the 1/4" copper feed line to shorten it as well but didn't want to mess with the fitting.

Ahh, I will check that out. I think SMB wanted to put one in but there were clearance issues. I'll take a closer peek and perhaps some photos should I get stuck.

Thanks!

Re: Hooking up a grill to the propane fill valve?

The one I have allows me to connect a grill but also allows a secondary tank to be connected. I am building a swing arm to carry a spare propane tank. When the one in the van runs low, I can hook up the spare and it will run my stuff inside the van as well as a grill.

TexGX

I do get propane left in the hose to grill. I try to cut off tank. And let the grill run until the gas is gone.

Fun with propane!
Somewhere here in the archives is a picture posted by a Canadian SMB'er with IIRC the door or roof of his van on top of his home's roof from a propane explosion in the van.
Proceed only with caution. Or don't proceed at all.

Re: Hooking up a grill to the propane fill valve?

I have a quick connect under my sink so I can plug in a cat heater to warm the van. Never thought to set up a stove hose but now I'm thinking.

Re: Hooking up a grill to the propane fill valve?

Hi,

Actually the photo is of a plumber's van that had a leaking acetylene tank in it. He hit the remote door lock on his fob and ventilated the van.

remember to test all your connections with soap and water. Propane is heavier than air so it will pool along the floor of your van.

Regards,

Gavin
