Re: Induction cooktop?

It might be possible to run those appliances for short periods of time. In a nut shell I'd be asking SMB to let you go through your cooking process and let them show you that the battery reserves are enough.

We recently added a Tramontina 1500W single burner induction cooktop. It cost $74.35 from Walmart measuring 14.76” X 11.41” X 2.44” and weighs 6.82 lbs. Included in the package was a non-stick frying pan and a non-stick 3 quart sauce pan with glass lid.

We tested it for about twenty minutes to make breakfast. Our voltage dropped from 13.7 down to 11.6 but recovered back to 13.6 in a few hours of full sun via our two Zamp solar panels equaling 200 watts into the two 90 watt AGM batteries.

Our Sprinter has the generator high idle feature which we use when running the 700W microwave so that is a good option when shore power or good sun is not available.

JJ brought this thread back from the dead and in the meantime lithium batteries have been gaining popularity. I know they are expensive, but they weigh less, recharge faster, hold more amps, discharge more deeply, and last longer.

We will have dual alternators with high idle, two soar panels, and probably two lithium batteries, three if necessary. Heat and hot water will come from an Espar D5. The main loads will be Isotherm Cruise 165 refrigerator, microwave, induction cooking, vent fan for composting toilet, 1 CPAP, two Chillie Pad mattress coolers, and a Maxx Fan. Cabin Inverter will be pure sine wave. AC will only run if we have shore power or briefly with engine high idling. I will carry 2-3 refillable 1 lb propane canisters, a Little Buddy Heater and single burner portable stove for emergencies. The propane will stay in the Aluminess box when not needed with the bottles capped.
