My Propane Tank Set Up

I know my configuration for cooking with propane won't work for most folks, but it sure has worked well for me. I just keep my two burner Partner Steel Stove on the bottom where some folks have their porta-potty, and set it up on the counter top to cook. Partner Steel stoves are way expensive, but I have been running rivers with them since the mid-80's and all I can say is that they are incredibly dependable and tuff (and they make them here where I live in Pocatello, ID).

I found that a narrow 6 lb Worthington aluminum cylinder fits perfectly behind the drivers seat (the marine aluminum tanks are quite expensive). I set it on a piece of ethafoam, and it snugs up real well with the seat back and doesn't move (I'm 5'9"). It also sits flush with the Captain's Chair and doesn't snag anything. I put a neoprene jacket around the cylinder just so the aluminum doesn't rub off and to further tighten it up. Of course the whole set is easy to move outside or place the stove on the galley cabinet.

With just the wife and dog, I have found in the summer that I can go 20-25 days on the one tank.

Just curious, is it safe to carry the tank inside?

Here is picture of my stove - most river outfitters in Idaho on the MF, Main Salmon & Selway use these stoves. The hoses have "pin" type valves in them, so no gas escapes when disconnecting them.

Probably not the safest, but it is secure. My buddy has an Alaskan and he is still trying to run down the source of his propane leak on his built in stove - at least I won't ever have that problem. Seems like if I get in a bad wreck I'm probably more vulnerable that the built in propane tanks, but who knows?

I know this is an old thread. I wouldn't ever carry propane inside the van (or truck). Tanks should be transported upright and never on the side. Just my opinion.
