OK
Much better understanding of the meter and current in general.
Thank you.

Just to followup, I did order a new thermostat/control switch assembly and installed it the other day. The unit now seems to work on all the different cold settings. Hopefully, I will get at least a few years of service out of the thing. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all of the input and discussion.

Yes, but the compressor won't be running continuously, right? If it's running 33% of the time, you have:
(33%)*3.6a*12.5v*24hrs = 350 watt-hours per day.

Yes I replaced the thermostat and control switch. It comes as a single unit and cost about 25 dollars including shipping. I have the unit on setting 3 and it has been running about a week turning on and off. On setting 3 it runs about 25 percent of the time which is about what the unit did when new. About 36 to 38 degrees F on that setting with outside temps 70 to 80 F and van interior substantially warmer. The only difficulty was the install location in the rear upper corner requiring my arms to be about 6 inches longer than I have. The sensor part has a coating on it but the "brain" is a little metal box that does not appear sealed. Due to the interior location moisture will always be getting in there and causing rust and degradation. Just bad design is all. I ordered two more and put them in the repair kit.
