Propane furnace - how noisy are they?

How does the noise level from the propane furnace system compare to noise from the starcool system? Is the furnace annoyingly noisy for sleeping?

I've never heard a starcool system so I can't compare. Our Suburban propane furnace is about as loud as the forced air system in our house - audible but not a problem.

Yep, sleeping when the suburban furnace is running has never been a problem.

Re: Propane furnace - how noisy are they?

My Starcool on shore power has an annoying cycling sound and produces a fairly loud lower frequency hum. The P-furnaces (that I've camped close to) seem to produce more of a white noise that does not bother me. I was surprised how loud they are compared to the Espar cab heater though. The Espar water heater fitted with the muffler is only louder when it first cycles on then they are fairly close. My snoring seems to bother people than any of the heaters

The heater wakes me up when it cycles on in the cold of the night. Earplugs or my 12V electric blanket solves the problem.

Ditto Viejo. Ours is located under one of he dinette seats. If we ever do a remodel will move it someplace. Not from the noise but from an efficiency standpoint.

Re: Propane furnace - how noisy are they?

It took a while - maybe a half dozen camp trips - but I can sleep right through it now. This is especially true if you get a good workout before hitting the sack. My partner is hard of hearing and so I have trouble talking over the heater at times when we're in the galley. I'll try to get you some db readings on it - that's probably as objective as you can get when judging how loud it is - unless you hear it for yourself.

+1 on the noise waking me up when it cycles on. Its not overly loud just a sudden click that seems loud in the dead of night. During the evening I don't really notice it.
