Propane Furnace Question

We just used our furnace for the first time this past trip and man it was great. Quick question though..

On the directions for the Suburban furnace it says to close the propane tank and run the fan for 5 mins before you use it. Then shut the fan off, open up the tank and start running the furnace.

My question is, if you're sitting in the same spot for a few days do you need to do this each night? I figured its just to clear the system and you do it once a trip. Am i correct?

Hmmm, I had no idea that was the recommended procedure for operating the Suburban furnace. I've used mine for almost two years and have never followed that protocol. When I turn it on it blows cold for a bit until the furnace burner kicks on. And when I shut it off, it blows cold for a few minutes after the burner goes off. On some trips to Mammoth, I've run it 2-4x a day for 1-2 hours each time. Always works just fine and a tank of propane lasts a LONG time.

I've never done that either but, of course, I don't always read the directions for anything...

If you don't count forgetting to turn on the gas, I have never used that procedure in 4 years. But now that you pointed it out, I see it clearly stated in the manual. I would suspect that you would only really need to perform that after the first usage in awhile, but then why couldn't you have a leak in between thermal cycles. I would have preferred them to just lengthen their time from the blower starting until and an actual ignition. More to ponder, thanks for the info.
