Propane Tank Replacement (can't find one)
I am wanting to replace a fairly old, multiple coated propane tank, like shown.
It is so coated, I can't make out the manufacturer stamp! Hoping that pics will help... would like to stay with the same mounting style that this one has. It measures 12" x 24" (5 gal?)
Look familiar to anyone??

Do you have a wire wheel you can put on a drill? If so, clean all that off until you can make out the numbers and call Manchester tank or one of the big propane tank makers, or just Google everything there. What's this off of?
Also, there is much debate over this but it's really a waste to replace the tank if it's not badly rusted. Tanks on RV's are super tough and built to withstand a direct hit in an accident. I recently sandblasted and painted one from a 30 year old Westfalia and replaced all the valves for 1/3 the cost of a new one. It turned out great.

It's off of my van. I put rust bullet on it 2 yrs ago. (worked well to keep rust at minimum) Now, I just used some corroseal on the rusty bits and oversprayed that with primer but the primer didn't bond. It's a mess. I'm not sure I can wire wheel the rust bullet out of the numbers/letters... I'll try!

Oh, sorry. 2000 SMB RB with Quigley conversion and starcool air, so limited space for tank. Called SMB, but no return call, so figured I'd ask here.

That looks a lot like a Manchester ASME propane tank. I have found the folks at Manchester to be very helpful. If you send them your photos, I suspect they will be happy to help you ID the part number.

I found a direct replacement, but SMB wanted $580 plus $60 shipping for a new tank!! I got the part # from Manchester but didn't look into a dealers price since i was knee deep in the stripping process by then...
So, I stripped my old tank down with "Citrastrip" and to my surprise, it stripped off not only paint layers, but Rust Bullet layers as well, which I thought was there to stay!
Once down to the bare metal, the rust was not bad at all. I put 2 coats of Rust Bullet back on, then sprayed it with a gloss grey smoke Rustoleum... Now it should get me by for a while!

Looks nice! That's just what I did to a Westy tank recently. I even painted it the same color. Looks new!
