Question for walk-thru style van owners

Hi All,
I'm almost done with the sofa-bed, no really, and the next big project will be the sink/kitchen cabinet. The cabinet will sit directly across from the sofa-bed so I need to decide on it's dimensions. Of course this will have a direct relation on the amount of walk-thru space between the sofa-bed and the cabinet.

I've got around 40" to play with so I was looking at a 20" wide cabinet which leaves a 20" walking corridor. Short of constructing a full scale mock up I don't know how this will "feel".

Looking for suggestions from those with a walk-thru layout. What are your dimensions like? Would you change it if you could?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Question for walk-thru style van owners

Dave,

We have the EB-43 floor plan with a couple of modifications. Our counter top is 22 1/2" wide from the wall. The edge of the goucho (sofa) is 16" from the front of the cabinets. We are very comfortable with it.

Re: Question for walk-thru style van owners

We have a walk through one thing I love about our closets (full height doors and opposite each other) is when they both open it makes a "bathroom" for the marine head we have or more often it is used as a changing room. It is great to jump in at a busy campground, pop the doors open, change and jump out. No need to pull curtains or anything. Our walk way is two Cornelius kegs wide (probably about 20").

Re: Question for walk-thru style van owners

I am a walk thru guy also
will measure for you

i have had two vw RB 50 style
two pick up campers, walk thru style

I had Wilson built as a walk thru, go figure

my cabinet depth was kept at minimum for a wider asile
existing Suburban heater and water heater limited narrowing the galley side

fridge depth limited the driver side,

however, i am a 6ft 190 lb guy and plenty of room

also i went with as many Drawers vs cabinets as i could

Re: Question for walk-thru style van owners

I did my own design and wanted a walk space wth the gaucho open. My cabinet (with sink) is only 17" wide. I designed it that way and really enjoy the "hall" space.

Re: Question for walk-thru style van owners

passenger cabinets 21 inches
drivers cabinets 20 inches
"hall" 21 inches

gaucho opens to passenger side width about a foot

with bed open, i can step over

i get up early
fold up the gaucho 1/2 way with wife and dog between driver wall and upturned gaucho
hold it up with paracord on a bolt on the gaucho and a eyebolt on the driver wall
she gets to nest
i get my full hallway back

for us, needed cabinets on both sides

see shot from the rear on my gallery page 12
see full shots page 10, all shots with bed up

will try to post some soon re: bed down, foot board and "Nest"
