I haven't gotten that far.
Who is the manufacturer?
I like your idea of steaming, and drying. Because they seem to be a poly material they probably will not absorb moisture, which is a good thing if you are a shade in an RV... Once I get into this I will try and find out what the manufacturer recommends.

I've never asked who makes the things. Maybe a shop that sells them can tell you or even suggest a good way to fix em.

By the way the new style cord tensioners are "JR 81945" and are easy to find at RV outlets and Amazon.

These kits seems like the most economical option. Enough string and accessories to do 3 shades for $25. You pick the color.

I'll post up a review once I've installed mine.

Attached Key Point Sheet for day/night shade cord replacement based on what I learned by watching a local mobile blind repair service fix my barn door shade for $50. This includes a new idea on how to solve the problem of a stripped thread when reattaching a cord tensioner to the interior door cover.

Another tip to address stripping plastic door panel sheet metal screw holes:

Wrap the point of the screw with plumbers tape so that it fits snug in the widened hole.

This turned out to be much easier than any other solutions posted to date.

Cheers!

Mine are starting to fail occasionally (just had second one break in about 6 months). Rather than re-string/repair I am thinking of replacing all with new units.

Does there happen to be known part numbers or such to make sure one can order correct sizes / units.

Or, if one has to buy through measurement is it correct to assume one needs the exact measurement of the shade width and length when down (ie: versus window dimensions or other)

Van is standard 2005 EB50 layout/windows w tan interior.

Thanks in advance!

This thread really helped me out today. One of my shades needed restringing after the cord snapped. I ended up using bead wire -- my first choice would have been 50# fishing line but for various reasons it was easier to get bead wire. It works great now, smoother than the one that hasn't broken yet.

I don't have the plastic cord locks -- on mine the cords wrap around another channel below the window, and join with a second spring. They're otherwise the same, though, and the diagram was a big help. Until I saw that I just couldn't visualize how they worked.
