regerator problem and questions

Hello forum members. I am a new member and this is my first post. I'd appreciate any advice/recommendations that any one can offer re: the following--

I have a 1993 Sportsmobile. The refrigerator runs all the time and does not cool well. It may just need to be cleaned and re-charged, but I am afraid I need a new one.

I live in Berkeley, CA. Can anyone recommend a shop, capable and honest,in the East Bay where I can get this problem evaluated? Any recommendations as to where to get a new one if needed?

I have a Norcold refrig now, a two way. Any thoughts about a three way, i.e., one that uses current and propane? A better make than Norcold?

Also, any recommendations as to where I can get my propane system inspected in my area?

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Re: regerator problem and questions

First off don't go with Norcold. They're terrible- I know I have one myself. One problem is if it's hot it won't cool- I fight mine all the time, and have to load it with already cold food at night when it's cool. If I put too many warm drinks in at once, it will never cool- it just goes belly up and is luke warm the rest of the trip. I can't wait to replace mine either.

Second, the 3-way need hole cut in the wall, and a vent stack (chimney). All you really need is a two-way (12v/110v) or even a 12v only.

Install is pretty simple if you stay the same size- what would help is to know what size you have currently. The 2.5cf Norcold has a little curved metal plate that is the "freezer", where as the 4cf has a separate little plastic door on the freezer, inside the main fridge.

I'll let other people recommend which brand to buy, I'm interested myself!

I replaced he Igloo thermoelectric cooler
With a Truckfridge, http://truckfridge.com/, and am very happy with it. Keeps things cold and only draws between 2.5 and 3 amps when running depending on how hot it is in he van. The Igloo ran all the time at 4+ amps while the TF cycles on and off like you home fridge. It is also very quiet.
