Removing Old-School Dinette Column?

Our New/Old 89 Ford with its 1993 SMB conversion has a dinette that doesn't seem to want to come out. I'm afraid to force anything, and wanted to know if there is a trick to it -- there seem to be three or four tabs on the plate to which the cylindrical column attaches, but they don't seem to be movable.

Any vintage SMB owners know the trick?

Otherwise, I'm going to have to take off the whole mounting plate and figure out if it's rusted on or something.

spray some WD-40 or PB blaster in it. There is no trick that I know of. Has it been in there awhile?

Re: Removing Old-School Dinette Column?

Thanks.

Don't know when it was out last. Previous owner said that he tended to use the dinette for sleeping more than the PH, so it's not like it has been on there for many years.

So it just slides on and off?

Re: Removing Old-School Dinette Column?

I have the same issue at times with mine. The steel pole gets stuck in the aluminum housing. To get it out I hold the top section and wiggle it back and forth in all directions while pulling up. It eventually should release.

The housing and post are tapered so if you ram it home it can get stuck. Am thinking of using bar soap as a lubricant but have not tried it yet.

86Scotty has a good suggestion.

My pole does not have the tabs on it.

Re: Removing Old-School Dinette Column?

Thanks, gentlemen. Looks like I should probably take the base out, replace the screws, figure out how it works, and reinstall.

Re: Removing Old-School Dinette Column?

looks to me like you have to twist then pull up. I would suspect that the tabs lock down the post.
