Sleeping Quality!
Hey all, I'm sorry I just posted on the General Forum, then realized this was the better one suited for my topic, so I am posting again.
I'm now having dreams about my van conversion, mostly about the cost, ha ha. I'm honestly a bit scared to pour the money into it, but I know it's the only way to make my wife feel comfortable enough to go on trips with me. We're getting pretty excited!
One fear I have is that the bed (RB50 plan) won't be comfortable enough for us. Can someone please reassure us that sleeping on the bed feels like it does at home? No lumps, soft spots or back pain?
We're hoping to be on the road for a many months at a time.
THANKS SO MUCH. I got my fingers crossed. Trying to book an early May conversion.
S.

Re: Sleeping Quality!
It doesn't feel like the bed at home. But you can make it great by adding a memory foam pad on top of it. We have a 4" pad with sheets and a comforter on it and roll it up when not in use.

Re: Sleeping Quality!
Many years ago, both jail and the army conditioned me to be able to eat almost anything and sleep almost anywhere.
But I married a Princess (of Princess and the Pea fame), so the van is nearly as comfortable as home.
Like saline - we use a 4" roll up foam pad w/sheets & blanket - supplemented with sleeping bags when it's really cold.
We sleep in the penthouse - the dogs get the downstairs.

Re: Sleeping Quality!
So, what DO you sleep on at home? 25 down mattresses like the Princess?
RB-50 lower bed is already a 4" foam, somewhat firm for good sleep posture. I often add a 1-2" foam pad over it. Up top, I permanently keep a 1" memory foam over the thinner PH base pad. I couldn't be any happier up there! (probably because I love my van, love camping, and probably had a few adult beverages....)

skipped the army part (never could pass the pee test)
but sleeping in a steel cell with 30 guys and mtv blasting is easy
just knock out the biggest dude there, take the toilet paper roll to use as a pillow
growl and act crazy and they will let you sleep
sadly now, you dont get mtv

Re: Sleeping Quality!
Thanks everyone, much appreciate the quick replies. Part of me wonders why I'm buying a $1500 couch mattress, only to throw down an additional 2 more inches of memory foam, not to mention, have to find a place to store it, when alternatively, I could just build the fold out bed with an 50 dollar sheet of Birch finished plywood and get a custom made 4 inch foam mattress at the futon shop, throw a sheet on it and call it good. I mean, a $1000 bucks is a $1000 bucks, that's about 3 tanks of gas. ha ha ha.
Hmmm. Lots to think about. Again, thanks for the honest feedback.

Re: Sleeping Quality!
If you don't need a sofa, a platform bed will do what you have described and it allows more storage space underneath. However it is nice to have a comfortable sofa for lounging inside during cold or inclement weather, even if not used for additional passengers.
