doing some research for a new CD player for the vab I came across this DynaMat hood insulation kit, check it out....

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SWW3XKdkwM ... I=15411905

Is it the same stuff as the regular dynamat or is it more insulative for heat?

Unknown (by me), but I'm a little suspicious about putting it on the hood (I realize you're not saying that it's a good idea either). When I've been driving for a bit and the diesel engine is hot, when I pull in I lift the hood to help get the heat OUT. I'm not sure I want anything on there that would trap more heat in the engine compartment area. Seems to me that Dynamat is simply looking for more ways to sell material... how would this help with noise anyway?

However, your point is still valid: if it's the same material, it might be a less expensive way to acquire it? And if it's built more for heat, then perhaps it's better for the doghouse.

i was thinking it would be used for the doghouse only, not the hood.

Kzemach,

How did your work with Second Skin go?

Everyone,

Who else has experience using Second Skin?
or both Second Skin and DynaMat?

I was encouraged by CustomSounds, the SMB TX audio outsource supplier to look on line for pricing for DynaMat that is better than $7.5/sq ft, and if I find it cheaper to let them know. They also warned that there are "seconds" out there where the material may have been melted an charachteristics changed or where the adhesive is less strong.

I would like to add extra insulation in a number of spots NOW beforewe get farther in the build, BUT I want to make sure it works and that it does not cost an additional arm or an additional leg.

Thanks,

What do you think of the stealth muffler compared to stock?

It went fine. I didn't get it under all the carpet, as I was having a hard time pulling carpet up, and decided not to uninstall the seats. Instead, I put it UNDER the van on the outside, plus along side the sides and top area of the engine compartment when the doghouse is removed (i.e. not on the doghouse itself as I recall), on one door, under the floor mat area, on the sidewalls of the engine compartment from the inside of the van, etc.

It's all stuck fine, and I notice some thermal differences, but not really any discernable noise change. Note: prior to this I'd done 1" of foam on the inside of the doghouse, and that made significant noise difference.

Summary: I had absolutely no problems at all with Second Skin, cannot compare to Dynamat, cannot say it made any big noise difference and probably some thermal difference.
