Re: Started the insulation process yesterday....

We sprayed expanding foam in some of the voids. Need to do more when I get a chance. Pain to get back into some of those areas.

Did measurements on the void areas and straight panel areas and did not see much of a temp difference once covered with the insulation.

Used Thermo-Tec Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive #12005 from the Summit Racing website.

Re: Started the insulation process yesterday....

Thanks Brent. If I read your reply correctly, the foam filled voids performed bout the same as the voids left with air space?

I have wondered if simply covering ALL the interior wall surfaces with the type of material you used to the level there is no air exchange between interior air and the voids was sufficiently effective in insulation properties. This could / would(??) reduce the accumulation of condensation/moisture in glass or denim filled voids and keep any weep holes in the voids open for drainage. There would likely still be an additional wall covering for esthetic treatment with its own insulating properties. Like I said just wondering.

Thanks!

Re: Started the insulation process yesterday....

Not to be a party pooper but expanding foam materials such as used most commonly in building construction should be avoided for vehicles. It has been reported to be corrosive when applied against sheet metal.

Given the spaces where it would be used most often the downside is any effect on the sheet metal wouldn't be noticed until it erupts on the outside, resembling rust bubbles. Because its a slow moving effect it could be several years before it presents itself by which time the damage would be over a significant area.

Certainly its nature to adhere to surfaces it contacts along with reported higher R-values makes it attractive to us its potential for damaging the van body is the biggest concern.

There was also someone here years ago that used expanding foam, and ended up deforming the outer van body because the foam expanded too much.

Re: Started the insulation process yesterday....

Good thing I did not use much yet in tight spaces. Only a little in the larger spaces. No bulging the last few months so far on what I have done. Thanks for the heads up though. Won't use anymore just incase.
