Excellent perspective.

By comparison, we've used the two burner cooktop and the sink in our old van from the first trip, so we will make sure the upcoming buildout in the new van permits us to do the same in it.

Other than coffee, my cooking inside usually involves water or steaming stuff. Most cooking is on the grill or stove outside. But there are those times where the weather outside doesn't cooperate and any stove that works inside is a nice option.

^^ This seller. I bought this one in 2017 before #vanlife prices took hold though. It was $186.
Bastian, there are lots and lots of these, different styles, one to three burners. Just search RV/marine stink/stove/hob combo in Google Images and go from there.

I used the same Ebay store as Scotty, paid $230GBP mid December 2018, unit arrived as expected 9 days later. Around $300 USD at today's exchange rate.
SMEV Dometic 8821 R/H 1 Burner Hob & Sink Unit Cooker & Single Lever Mixer tap.
After some thought we decided a sink and single burner stove might come in handy some day.

Thanks all for the good advices.
I did some research. Would you install any stove in your van or it should be RV style. I would say the RV style is better because all piece must be attached together.
I have seen people using stove like this one but it seems dangerous if all pieces fly around the van.

That unit needs 110 VAC to run the ignition. You could work a bbq piezo electric push button into it or just keep a long lighter nearby.

I'm guessing you're referring to the grill? Maybe you can stow it away while on the road.
My SMEV has a glass top and I worried something jumping out of the SMB shelf above it on a rough trail. I used Velcro to secure a nylon cutting board that covers the glass for protection.

yeah. Fair point. I am not 100 pc convinced about the glass approach too.
Hard to find something nice and designed for RV purposes.

Does anyone have a good source for replacement parts for the Dometic/SMEV stoves? In particular I need to replace one of the pieizo spark lighters on one of the burners.
